Centre rejects collegium’s recommendation for High Court Chief Justice twice

The Government has reportedly rejected a recommendation of the Supreme Court collegium for appointment as the Chief Justice of a High Court for the second time.

The Government has reportedly rejected a recommendation of the Supreme Court collegium for appointment as the Chief Justice of a High Court for the second time.

This is the second time that the Judge’s name was recommended for appointment by the Apex Court collegium, for the post of Chief Justice of the High Court of a “prominent opposition-governed state”. However, it has been asked to reconsider its decision, as at least two sitting SC judges have expressed reservations about the Judge.

The two Judges had reportedly worked with the Judge in question during their previous assignments at another High Court. Their objections had been communicated to the collegium, which had forwarded the same to the Government.
