The Committee for the Defence and Release of Dr. GN Saibaba note with concern and anguish the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court’s order rejecting the bail application of Dr. GN Saibaba. Currently he is out of prison as the Division Bench of Chief Justice Mohit Shah and Justice Shukre granted him interim relief so that he could avail the necessary medical treatment on 30 June 2015. The initial bail was granted for a period of three months which was later extended by another three months, till 31stDecember 2105, so that the medical treatment could continue. Dr. Saibaba had approached the High Court for regular bail on the basis of merit of the case, on the basis of parity as all other accused in the same case have been granted regular bail, as well as on health grounds. While rejecting the bail application on all counts, it has asked him to surrender before the  Nagpur Central Prison within 48 hours, where he will be housed in the same notorious anda cell which is primarily responsible for the life threatening deterioration of his health! read more
